Green Inspiration

by Shelly

Green has long been a favorite color of mine.  And I do tend to incorporate it in a lot of my designs when working with clients.  Whether it be a fabulous green paint for the walls, a green fabric for upholstery or just adding some live plants into a room, green really acts like a neutral to me.

So, I was thrilled to be included by House Beautiful this month with nine other bloggers and our top green rooms from the pages of the magazine.  We were asked to pick a room featuring the color green from their past issues and tell them why we loved it, if it inspired us, helped us with a decorating project, etc.

I chose this colorful bedroom by New York designer Lindsey Coral Harper.  Of course the room features both of my favorite colors…blue and green, as well as a fabulous mix of modern and traditional furnishings…just my style!

So often people opt for a neutral tan, beige…or greige paint color on the walls.  But green is so versatile and is easily incorporated with SO many other colors! Obviously from the rooms I chose below…green and blue is always a winning combination.

Check It Out

by Shelly

Our poor guest room has been a bit neglected in my opinion.  When we moved to our new neighborhood, we were finally able to move into a Cal King bed.  So we took our old white sleigh bed and matching furniture and moved it to the guest room. The old bedding even went along.  But it was boring. White. Very white. AND boring  So, now I’m really focusing on warming the room up and making it super comfy and inviting for guests (which happens to mostly be my in laws from Fresno).

I’ve developed quite an obsession for buffalo check in the last few months.  It may be in part from seeing it done so well in Graces’ home.  Then I got the new Land of Nod catalog in the mail….

And it got me to thinking!

Keeping the existing bedroom furniture, roman shades, lighting and vintage surf posters…. I’ll be adding the gingham duvet, new draperies, a fun rug, and a couple Pax wardrobes from Ikea with high end hardware from one of my vendors (there isn’t a closet in this room).  We may even have some fun in the room and add bead board or something similar to really give it a beachy feel.  I think the whole thing will be super easy and relatively cheap to accomplish.

I’m pretty much in love with it!

Taking a break

by Shelly

Things have been quite busy work wise for me and the hubs lately.  Since we are both small business owners, having to work way past normal business hours and on weekends is not unusual for us.  But it really weighs on me emotionally and makes me feel super guilty towards my motherhood duties.  After all our kiddo is only going to be a preschooler for so long!  Since she’s our only one (and most likely always will be), I really try to balance out work and home life as to not neglect her.

So, part of my New Years’ resolution this year was to start getting out and being more active as a family.  We had really fallen into a rut of staying home on the weekends and working or vegging out in front of the tv.  Our girl wasn’t happy…and neither were our waist lines!  But we’ve now been doing a pretty good job getting out and trying new adventures.  One weekend we went roller skating, another we went bowling, and this past weekend we explored our local tide pools!

It was absolutely glorious outside….

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and you could see from the mountains to the Channel Islands off our coast. It was spectacular!  Ellie and Daddy had a great time checking out the sea anenomes, urchins, sea slugs, and star fish.

I was shocked at how well Ellie did balancing on the rocks!  She’s not the most coordinated kid…but she’ll get better as she gets older. *BTW sorry for the over exposed picture. The hubby didn’t realize it was on manual and I just love this pic even if it is a bit washed out!*

And I never tire of watching Ellie play at the beach.  She is usually the happiest when she is around water of any kind.  But like her momma, the sea is where we both feel the most relaxed.

BTW…notice the Sponge Bob Band Aid sticking out from my skull print slip on Vans?  I think the combo is quite hilarious myself.

Nothing like a day at the beach!
